Yn llawn o'r Ysbryd Glân, syllodd Steffan tua'r nef a gwelodd ogoniant Duw, ac Iesu'n sefyll ar ddeheulaw Duw, a dywedodd, "Edrychwch, 'rwy'n gweld y nefoedd yn agored, a Mab y Dyn yn sefyll ar ddeheulaw Duw." Rhoesant hwythau waedd uchel, a chau eu clustiau, a rhuthro'n unfryd arno, a'i fwrw allan o'r ddinas, a mynd ati i'w labyddio. Dododd y tystion eu dillad wrth draed dyn ifanc o'r enw Saul. "Peidiwch â gadael i ddim gynhyrfu'ch calon. Credwch yn Nuw, a chredwch ynof finnau. Yn nhŷ fy Nhad y mae llawer o drigfannau; pe na byddai felly, a fyddwn i wedi dweud wrthych fy mod yn mynd i baratoi lle i chwi? Ac os af a pharatoi lle i chwi, fe ddof yn ôl, a'ch cymryd chwi ataf fy hun, er mwyn i chwithau fod lle'r wyf fi. Fe wyddoch y ffordd i'r lle'r wyf fi'n mynd." Meddai Thomas wrtho, "Arglwydd, ni wyddom i ble'r wyt yn mynd. Sut y gallwn wybod y ffordd?" Dywedodd Iesu wrtho, "Myfi yw'r ffordd a'r gwirionedd a'r bywyd. Nid yw neb yn dod at y Tad ond trwof fi. Meddai Philip wrtho, "Arglwydd, dangos i ni y Tad, a bydd hynny'n ddigon inni." Atebodd Iesu ef, "A wyf wedi bod gyda chwi cyhyd heb i ti fy adnabod, Philip? Y mae'r sawl sydd wedi fy ngweld i wedi gweld y Tad. Sut y medri di ddweud, 'Dangos i ni y Tad'? Onid wyt yn credu fy mod i yn y Tad, a'r Tad ynof fi? Cymorth Cristnogol (Ioan 14:1-14)
Heddiw yw diwrnod cyntaf wythnos Cymorth Cristnogol sydd, fel bywyd pawb erbyn hyn, yn drwm o dan ddylanwad y coronofeirws. Mae cysgod y pandemig ar lawer o’r deunydd y mae Cymorth Cristnogol wedi’i baratoi ac fe hoffwn i gynnig rhai sylwadau ar yr efengyl heddiw, o Ioan 14, er mwyn i ni allu canolbwyntio ar Gymorth Cristnogol.
Y darlun y mae Iesu’n ei gynnig yw tŷ ei Dad lle y mae yna ddigonedd o ystafelloedd. Yn yr hen gyfieithiad Saesneg, roedd y tŷ’n cael ei alw'n 'blas'. Roedd hynny’n swnio’n grand!Ac mae Iesu’n dweud mai trwyddo ef y mae’r ffordd i’r tŷ yma, y porth lle mae gwahoddiad a chroeso i fynd trwyddo. Mae’n ddarlun hudolus, ond, heddiw, efallai fod y darlun ychydig yn wahanol. Erbyn hyn, efallai mai bod mewn ystafell, hyd yn oed un mewn plas, yw’r union beth nad ydyn ni ei eisiau. Rydyn ni wedi cael ein cau am yn ddigon hir ac mae’r wlad a’i phobl yn ein denu!
Ond mae’n rhaid i ni i gyd berthyn, i deimlo fod gennym ni gartref yn rhywle, i ni’n hunain, sy’n ddiogel ac yn noddfa i ni. Mewn gwirionedd, rydyn ni'n byw mewn byd lle mae’r pethau hynny’n gallu bob yn brin. Heddiw, gallai miliynau fod yn wynebu caledi oherwydd nad oes ganddyn nhw yr hawliau personol rydyn ni’n eu cymryd yn ganiataol, neu eu bod yn brin o fwyd a diod i’w cynnal, neu fod heb do uwch eu pennau neu’n byw o dan gysgod ymosodiad neu ryfel.
Mae Cymorth Cristnogol yn tynnu ein sylw at gyflwr pobl a chymunedau sy'n wynebu trafferthion enfawr. Storïau fel un Falmata Bulama a’i phlant Yagana a Bakuva oedd yn gorfod ffoi rhag arswyd Boko Haram. Erbyn hyn, mae’n rhaid iddyn nhw fyw mewn cymuned dros dro ychydig y tu allan i Maiduguri, y dref fwyaf yn nhalaith Borno yn Nigeria. Mae’r amodau'n ddychrynllyd. Oherwydd nad oes yna ddarpariaeth a gwarchodaeth i bobl fel Falmata a’i phlant, lle dros dro fel hyn yw’r peth agosaf sydd ganddyn nhw at ddiogelwch. Neu brofiad Samira, oedd hefyd wedi ffoi o’i phentref pan ymosododd Boko Haram.Roedd yn rhaid iddi wneud taith ofnadwy, filltiroedd lawer, i chwilio am ddiogelwch cyn cyrraedd Maiduguri – ond bu farw pedwar o’r plant oedd yn ei gofal ar y ffordd.Dioddefodd Samira drais difrifol, aeth drwy, a gweld, pethau na ddylai neb wybod dim amdanyn nhw. Gwelodd y gwaethaf mewn dynoliaeth. Er ei bod yn ddiogel erbyn hyn, ychydig o gysur yw hynny ar ôl colli’r plant roedd hi’n gofalu amdanyn nhw a gorfod dioddef creithiau ei dioddefaint sy’n dal i frifo.
Rwy’n credu mai un o agweddau mwyaf nerthol ffydd yw'r ffordd y mae Iesu'n addo bod yna le i ni i gyd. Mae eisiau i ni ddod adref. A’r adref hwnnw yw lle o berthyn, gwella a gobaith. Mae Duw yn hael, ac mae yna le i bawb sy'n dod ato. A phan fyddwn ni’n mynd ato, mae yna le wedi’i baratoi ar ein cyfer ni ac ni all neb nac unrhyw beth ein cau allan. Mae’n hynod o bwysig i mi fel Cristion fod Iesu’n warant i’r sicrwydd hwn. Pwy bynnag ydym ni, beth bynnag rydyn ni wedi bod trwyddo, mae Iesu’n ein gwahodd i ddod i’r lle sydd wedi’i baratoi ar ein cyfer a chanfod yn Nuw gartref a noddfa.
Ond fydd hynny ddim yn ddigon os mai dim ond ni sy’n dod - ar ein pen ein hunain. Beth am y rhai sy’n teimlo fod rhwystrau enfawr ar y ffordd honno Y rhai sydd â’u bywyd yn llawn anobaith oherwydd eu bod nhw wedi cael eu gadael neu eu cam-drin?Y rhai nad yw eu bywyd ond ofn a braw ac nad ydyn nhw’n gweld unrhyw obaith iddyn nhw eu hunain na’u rhai annwyl. Mae’n rhaid i’r ‘adref’ y mae Iesu’n ei addo fod yn fwy na hafan ysbrydol i'r rhai ohonom ni sydd ar ben ein digon. Mae’n rhaid i ni wneud yn siŵr nad oes neb yn cael ei rwystro rhag mynd ato. Mae’n rhaid i fywyd llawn gael yr anghenion sylfaenol fel dŵr, bwyd, diogelwch a dyfodol gwell. Ffurfio dyfodol lle mae hyn yn cael ei wireddu i'r rhai mwyaf bregus yw'r hyn sydd wrth wraidd ein cyfrifoldeb fel Cristnogion.
Ar y wefan lle'r oeddech yn gwylio'r neges hon mae manylion sut y gallwch chi gyfrannu at Gymorth Cristnogol drwy e-amlen. Mae arni hefyd rai gweddïau, darlleniadau a sut y gallwch gadw cysylltiad rheolaidd gyda Chymorth Cristnogol.
Yn nhŷ fy nhad’ meddai ‘y mae llawer o drigfannau’. Mae yna le i ni yno – i bawb ohonom. Does dim rheswm pam y dylai neb gael ei adael ar y tu allan. Dyma wahoddiad Iesu heddiw:dod ac, ie, dod ag eraill hefyd. Amen.

Then they dragged him out of the city and began to stone him; and the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul. ‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling-places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.’ Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.’
Philip said to him, ‘Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, “Show us the Father”? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves. Christian Aid (John 14:1-14)
Today marks the start of Christian Aid week which, like all of life, has been affected by the outbreak of the coronavirus. Much of the material prepared by Christian Aid has been shaped in the light of the pandemic and I want to offer some thoughts on the set gospel for today, from John 14, to make Christian Aid our focus.
The picture Jesus offers is one in which there is an abundance of room in the Father’s house. Some of you might remember the older translation rendering ‘house’ as ‘mansion’. It can sound extravagant! And Jesus says that he is the way to this house, the portal through whom entry is both offered and secured. It’s a compelling picture but today might strike us afresh. Strangely we may feel being in a room even if a mansion is the very thing we don’t want! We’ve been cooped up long enough and the country and people beckon!
But we all need to belong, to feel we have a home, somewhere which is ours which is safe and brings security. In truth we live in a world where these things can be in short supply. Today the deprivations faced by millions could be the personal freedoms we take for granted, or food and water to sustain us; it might be the basic security of a roof over our head without fear of attack or war.
Christian Aid has drawn our attention to the plight of people and communities facing enormous struggles. Stories like that of Falmata Bulama and her children Yagana and Bakuva who had to flee the terror of Boko Haram. Now, they’re forced to live in a makeshift community just outside Maiduguri, the biggest town in Nigeria’s Borno state. The conditions are appalling. Because there’s no provision and protection for people like Falmata and her children, this temporary dwelling is the closest thing they have to safety. Or the experience of Samira who also fled her village when Boko Haram attacked. She was forced to make a horrific journey for many miles in search of safety, eventually reaching Maiduguri – but four of the children in her care died along the way. Samira experienced horrific violence, enduring and seeing things that no person should ever have to go through. She has witnessed the worst of humanity. Although she is now safe, the loss of the children she was caring for and the scars of her ordeal make this of little comfort to her.
I believe one of faith’s most compelling aspects is the way Jesus promises room for us all. He wants us to come home. And that home is a place of belonging, healing and hope. God is generous and there is space for any who come to Him. And when we come, we find a place prepared for us and nothing and no-one can shut us out. It is deeply important to me as a Christian, that this kind of security has Jesus as the guarantee. Whoever we are, whatever we’ve been through Jesus invites us to come to that place prepared for us and to find in God a home and refuge.
But it cannot be enough that only we come – alone. What about all of those for whom that way feels full of obstacles? Those who despair of life because they have been abandoned or abused? Those who experience life as terror and fear and see no hope for them or their loved ones? This ‘home’ promised by Jesus must be more than a spiritual refuge for those of us who are well off. We must ensure that none are excluded from coming to him. Life in its fullness must involve basic needs like water, food, security and a better future. Crafting that future in which this is real for those are most vulnerable lies at the heart of our responsibility as Christians.

‘In my father’s house’, he said, ‘there are many rooms’. There is space for us - for all of us. There is no reason why any should be left outside. That’s the invitation of Jesus today: to come and, yes, to bring others. Amen.
