Cyd-weddïwn
Mae Llythyr yr Esgob wythnosol yn dechrau gyda galwad i weddïo dros Ardal Weinidogaeth benodol neu weithgaredd yn yr esgobaeth. Fy ngobaith yw y bydd y gweddïau hyn hefyd yn rhan o ymbiliau ledled eglwysi'r esgobaeth y Sul.
Dduw pob un a phob man, clyw ein gweddi dros yr esgobaeth hon fel y bydded i ni ganfod ffyrdd o gyhoeddi dy gariad, dy groeso a’th dangnefedd yn ein dydd.

Addasiadau coronafirws
Gwnaed rhai mân newidiadau i'r canllawiau cenedlaethol yr wythnos ddiwethaf, a fe ydym yn ceisio eglurhad pellach oddi wrth Lywodraeth Cymru ar rai materion eraill. Mae gwybodaeth lawn ar gael ar y wefan genedlaethol.
Galwad Duw
Dros Ŵyl Bedr eleni yng Nghadeirlan Deiniol Sant ym Mangor, bu imi ordeinio neu drwyddedu i weinidogaethu 14 o bobl ymroddedig, dawnus o bob cwr o'r esgobaeth.
Dyma ragor o'u straeon personol nhw am alwad Duw ar eu bywydau.
“Mae ein prif wasanaethau yn yr awyr agored drwy gydol yr haf. Mae hynny wedi bod yn digwydd ers 1857 o leiaf felly dydi o ddim yn draddodiad newydd. Mae’n wasanaeth anffurfiol a hygyrch. Rydyn ni’n cael llawer o ymwelwyr. Mae pobol yn dod i eistedd ar y cyrion gan nad ydyn nhw efallai’n teimlo’n hyderus am ddod i ymuno ond byddan nhw’n gwrando ymhellach i ffwrdd yn y fynwent.”
“Roedd yn ymddangos yn wirion bost nad oedden ni’n gweithio gyda’n gilydd ledled y gwahanol eglwysi yn yr Ardal Gweinidogaeth. Felly rôn i’n frwd dros ddod â phobol at ei gilydd, i feithrin syniadau newydd a ffyrdd newydd o wneud pethau, i rannu adnoddau.”
“Mae’r Sagrafennau’n bwysig iawn i mi. Maent yn rhan o fy DNA bron iawn. Maent yn rhan bwysig o’m bywyd a’m gweinidogaeth ac mae’r gallu i rannu’r ymdeimlad yna o bresenoldeb Duw yn bwysig i mi. Dwi’n edrych ymlaen at allu defnyddio’r doniau hynny i dyfu’r eglwys.”
Ein defnydd o gyfryngau cymdeithasol
Mae wedi bod yn boen meddwl i mi weld, o fewn ein hesgobaeth ni dros yr wythnosau diwethaf, enghreifftiau o aelodau’r Eglwys yn defnyddio'r cyfryngau cymdeithasol i rannu deunydd annymunol, anadeiladol.
Rwyf am ailadrodd y neges - i bawb sy'n rhan o'n teulu esgobaethol - bod yn rhaid i'n hymgysylltiad ar-lein fod yn garedig ac yn ddoeth. Mae ymgysylltu caredig a doeth ar-lein yn rhan o fywyd disgybl Cristnogol, ac mae'n dda i bob un ohonom fyfyrio ar ein defnydd o gyfryngau cymdeithasol ac ar ein perthnasoedd digidol.
Mae Egwyddorion y Cyfryngau Cymdeithasol yr Eglwys yng Nghymru wedi’u hysgrifennu gyda chlerigion mewn golwg, ond maent yn cynnwys arweiniad defnyddiol i bawb sy’n rhan o deulu ein hesgobaeth. Mae'r Egwyddorion canlynol, yn benodol, yn berthnasol i bob un ohonom:
1. Byddwch garedig. Meddyliwch am ryngweithio ar y cyfryngau cymdeithasol fel sgwrs rhyngoch chi, Duw ac eraill. Byddwch glên wrth eraill a stiwardiwch eich presenoldeb ar-lein yn ofalus. Dylech osgoi gael eich tynnu i ddadlau ar-lein a byddwch yn ymwybodol pryd i gamu’n ôl o sefyllfa cyn i bethau waethygu. Peidiwch â gwneud sylwadau difenwol am unigolion neu grwpiau eraill na phostio delweddau amhriodol neu ddolenni i gynnwys amhriodol.
2. Os mewn amheuaeth, peidiwch â phostio. Os nad ydych yn siŵr a yw’ch post yn briodol - am ba reswm bynnag - peidiwch â’i bostio. Gofynnwch i ffrind neu gydweithiwr am gyngor ac ystyriwch newid eich neges yn unol â hynny.
3. Peidiwch â gwneud dim y gellid ei ystyried yn wahaniaethu yn erbyn rhywun, neu’n fwlio neu’n aflonyddu, er enghraifft trwy: (i) gwneud sylwadau ymosodol neu ddifenwol mewn perthynas â rhyw, ailbennu rhywedd, hil (gan gynnwys cenedligrwydd), anabledd, cyfeiriadedd rhywiol, crefydd neu gred neu oedran; (ii) defnyddio’r cyfryngau cymdeithasol i fwlio unigolyn arall; (iii) postio delweddau sy’n gwahaniaethu neu’n sarhaus.
Er mwyn sicrhau bod y neges hon yn cael ei chlywed gan bawb sy'n rhan o'n teulu esgobaethol, rwy'n gofyn i Arweinwyr Ardaloedd Gweinidogaeth ddefnyddio eu sianeli cyfathrebu, cylchlythyrau a'u bwletinau e-bost i rannu'r neges hon ac i dynnu sylw at yr Egwyddorion hyn yn benodol.
Grŵp Elen
Mae cyfarfod arbennig o Grŵp Elen yn cael ei gynnull ddydd Mawrth 27 Gorffennaf i glywed am Brosiect Glöynnod Byw Conwy. Gallwch gael cipolwg ar y prosiect cyffrous hwn yma.
Yng nghyfarfod Grŵp Elen, bydd cyfle i glywed gan Eryl Parry a'r tîm, ac i rannu syniadau am brosiectau tebyg a allai ddigwydd mewn rhannau eraill o'r esgobaeth.
Rhannwch hwn gydag eraill yn eich ardal chi ac, os hoffech chi fod yn bresennol yn y sesiwn Zoon hon, cysylltwch â Naomi Wood.
Ffydd, gobaith a chariad yn ein Hysgolion Eglwys
Ar ddiwedd blwyddyn heriol, rwy'n falch iawn i aelodau o Dîm Addysg ac Ymgysylltu’r esgobaeth ymweld â'n Hysgolion Eglwys dros y dyddiau diwethaf. Er i waith y tîm barhau dros y cyfnod yn rhithiol, rwy'n gwybod y byddant hwy a staff ein hysgolion wedi cael bendith o gwrdd unwaith eto wyneb yn wyneb.
Roedd sawl rheswm dros yr ymweliadau. Y cyntaf oedd cyd-fynd â gwasanaeth y gadawyr, ar gyfer y rhai sy'n dweddu eu cyfnod ym Mlwyddyn 6. Lle'n arferol bûm yn dathlu ar y cyd yn y Gadeirlan ym Mangor, bu eleni wasanaeth rhithiol wedi ei greu a’i yrru i bob ysgol ar y thema o ‘Symud ymlaen’ - cyfle i ddathlu dechrau eto a byw bywyd ar ei orau, yn union fel y cyfle a gafodd Noa a’i deulu. Da oedd gallu cynnig bandiau bendigedig i'r holl blant yn rhodd, wedi eu paratoi gan Ysgol Sant Siôr.
Yr ail fwriad yn ystod ein ymweliadau oedd i gasglu ceisiadau i gystadleuaeth Ffrindiau’r Byd. Prosiect Ffrindiau’r Byd yw'r diweddaraf o nifer o fentrau a ddatblygwyd ar gyfer Ysgolion Eglwys ledled Cymru yn ystod y pandemig gan ein Tîm Addysg ac Ymgysylltu a chydweithwyr o esgobaethau eraill. Oherwydd i’r Eglwys yng Nghymru gyhoeddi argyfwng hinsawdd, mae Ffrindiau’r Byd yn gyfle i blant rannu eu gobeithion am ein planed at y dyfodol ac sut i ofalu am greadigaeth Duw. Braf oedd gweld cymaint o geisiadau i’r gystadleuaeth ond cur pen anferthol wrth ddewis y goreuon. Mi fydd gwaith y plant yn cael ei yrru mlaen i Gaerdydd ac yna ym mis Medi bydd yr ennillwyr cenedlaethol yn cael eu cyhoeddi.
Y trydydd a’r rheswm pwysicaf am yr ymweliadau oedd i ddiolch i weithlu pob ysgol am eu holl waith caled dros y cyfnod heriol yma. Nid oes geiriau i allu cyfleu ein diolch i bob un a fu’n addysgu o bell ac agos, ac a fu’n gwarchod pob plentyn dan eu gofal i’r eithaf o’u gallu. Fel cydnabyddiaeth o’n diolch, cyflwynwyd Banner bersonol i bob ysgol yn rhodd, i gofio’r cyfnod a'n cydweithio drwyddo. Mae’r geiriau "ffydd", "gobaith" a "cariad" wedi eu pwytho ar bob banner. Rydym yn du hwnt o ddiolchgar i Sioned Hywel am ddylunio a chreu y baneri unigryw yma ar ein rhan, a fydd yn cymryd eu lle yn wych o fewn ein Hysgolion Eglwys fel arwydd o ddiolch a gobaith.
Hysbysfwrdd esgobaethol
- Mae gwasanaeth diolchgarwch esgobaethol fel digwyddiad corfforol Nghadeirlan Deiniol Sant ym Mangor ar gyfer aelodau Cynhadledd yr Esgobaeth yn cael ei gynllunio ar gyfer y dydd Sadwrn cyntaf ym mis Hydref, 2 Hydref 2021, dyddiad traddodiadol Cynhadledd yr Esgobaeth. Bydd mwy o fanylion yn cael eu cadarnhau maes o law, ond cadwch y dyddiad hwn yn rhydd mewn dyddiaduron.
- Rwy'n gofyn i bob clerig trwyddedig gadw'r cyfan o'u dyddiau gwaith yn rhydd ddydd Mawrth 14 Medi, dydd Mercher 15 Medi a dydd Iau 16 Medi 2021 ar gyfer ein Cynhadledd Glerigol. Byddwn yn cwrdd wyneb yn wyneb ar ddydd Mawrth 14 Medi, ac ar Zoom y deuddydd arall. Oherwydd y defnydd o'r Gadeirlan fel Canolfan Frechu, mae'n debyg y bydd sesiwn dydd Mawrth yn Llandudno.

A Letter from the Bishop
For the Seventh Sunday after Trinity | 18 July 2021
Dear colleagues and friends
All grace and peace to you.
Let us pray
The weekly Bishop’s Letter begins with a call to prayer for a particular Ministry Area or activity within the diocese. My hope is that these prayers will also form part of intercessions across the diocese on Sunday.
All-encompassing God, hear our prayer for this diocese, that we may seek out ways to proclaim your love, welcome, and peace to all.
We hold in prayer this week the Ministry Area of Bro Arwystli.
We pray:
for the clergy: the Revd Alison Gwalchmai, the Revd Jon Price, the Revd Beth Weston
for those exercising a licensed or commissioned ministry: Julia Schultz, Lauris Palshis, Christoph Schultz, Penny Pearce, Liz Green, Debbie Peck
for the areas of concern and mission, among them:
the retired clerics in the area who help out occasionally
the resumption of outreach events in Llanidloes
continued relations with the schools in the area, and after school activities and youth club
that all may be offered, given, and lived out in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Coronavirus adaptations
Some minor changes have been made this past week to the national guidance, and further clarification is being sought from the Welsh Government on some outstanding matters. Full information is available on the national website.
Called by God
This Petertide at St Deiniol's Cathedral in Bangor, I ordained or licensed for ministry a total of 14 dedicated, gifted people from across the diocese.
Here are some more of their brilliant personal stories about God’s call on their lives.
“Our main services are open air right through the summer. It’s been going on since 1857 at least so it’s not a new tradition. It’s a relaxed and accesible service. We get lots of visitors. People come and sit on the fringes who may not feel confident about coming to join in but they’ll listen in from further away in the churchyard.”
“It seemed crackers that we weren’t working together across the different churches in the Ministry Area. So I really wanted to bring people together, to bring new ideas and ways of doing things, to share resources.”
“The Sacraments are very important to me. It’s in my DNA almost. It’s an important part of my life and ministry and the ability to be able to share that sense of God’s presence is important to me. I’m looking forward to being able to use those gifts to grow the church.”
Our use of social media
It has pained me to see, within our own diocese over recent weeks, Church members using social media posts to share uncharitable and unedifying content.
I want to reiterate the message - to all who are part of our diocesan family - that our engagement online must be kind and wise. Kind and wise engagement online is part of Christian discipleship, and it is good for all of us to reflect on our use of social media and on our digital relationships.
The Church in Wales’s Social Media Principles are written with clergy in mind, but they contain useful guidance for all who are part of our diocesan family. The following Principles, in particular, are relevant to all of us:
1. Be kind. Think of social media interactions as a conversation between you, God and others. Treat others with kindness and steward your online presence with care. Avoid getting into arguments online and recognise when to step away from a situation before it escalates. Do not make defamatory comments about individuals or other groups or post images that are inappropriate or post links to inappropriate content.
2. If in doubt, don’t post. If you are not sure your post is appropriate – for whatever reason – don’t post it. Ask the advice of a friend or colleague and consider changing your message accordingly.
3. Do not do anything that could be considered discriminatory against, or bullying or harassment of, any individual, for example by: (i) making offensive or derogatory comments relating to sex, gender reassignment, race (including nationality), disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief or age; (ii) using social media to bully another individual; (iii) posting images that are discriminatory or offensive.
To ensure that this message is heard by all who are part of our diocesan family, I am asking Ministry Area Leaders to use their communication channels, newsletters and email bulletins to share this message and to highlight these three Principles in particular.
Grŵp Elen
A special meeting of Grŵp Elen is being convened on Tuesday 27 July to hear about Conwy’s Butterfly Project. You can get a glimpse of this exciting project here.
At the Grŵp Elen meeting, there will be an opportunity to hear from Eryl Parry and the team, and to share ideas about similar projects that could take place elsewhere in the diocese.

Faith, hope and love in our Church Schools
At the end of a very challenging, very different year, I am delighted that members of our diocesan Education & Engagement Team were able to visit our Church Schools over the past few days. Though the team's work has continued during the pandemic in a virtual fashion, I know that they and our schools’ staff have appreciated the chance to meet up face to face.
There were several reasons for the visits. The first was to accompany the distribution of the leavers' service, for those ending their time in Year 6. The service is usually celebrated together at our Cathedral; but, this year, we marked this milestone with a virtual service created and sent to all schools on the theme of 'Moving on’ - reflecting on change as an opportunity to celebrate new starts and living life at its best, just as Noah and his family did. It was good to be able to present each child with a wonderful band, prepared for us by Ysgol Sant Siôr
The second reason for the visit was to collect entries for the Friends of the World competition. The Friends of the World project is the latest of a number of initiatives developed for Church Schools across Wales during the pandemic by our Education & Engagement Team and colleagues from other dioceses. Because the Church in Wales has announced a climate crisis, the Friends of the World project gives children the opportunity to to share their hopes for our planet for the future and how to care for God's creation. It was good to see so many entries for the competition but a huge headache in choosing the best. The children's work will be forwarded to Cardiff and then in September the national winners will be announced.
The third, and the most important, reason for the visits was to thank each school's workforce for all their hard work over this challenging period. There are no words to express our gratitude to all those who taught from far and wide, and who looked after every child in their care to the best of their ability. In recognition of our thanks, a gift of a personal Flag to commemorate the period and to celebrate our colleagueship was made to each school. The words “faith”, “hope” and “love” are embossed on every banner. We are very grateful to Sioned Hywel for designing and creating these unique banners on our behalf, which will take their place in our wonderful Church Schools as a token of thanks and hope.
Diocesan noticeboard
- An in-person diocesan thanksgiving service at St Deiniol's Cathedral in Bangor for Diocesan Conference members is being planned for the first Saturday in October, 2 October 2021, the traditional date for the Diocesan Conference. More details will be confirmed shortly, but please keep this date free in diaries.
- I am asking all licensed clergy to keep free the totality of their working days on Tuesday 14 September, Wednesday 15 September and Thursday 16 September 2021 for our Clergy Conference. On Tuesday 14 September, we will meet in person, and on Zoom the other two days. Because of the use of the Cathedral as a Vaccination Centre, Tuesday's session is likely to be in Llandudno.
