Cadeirlan Deiniol Sant yn lansio allgymorth newydd i bobl hŷn ym Mangor
Mae Cadeirlan Deiniol Sant ym Mangor yn cychwyn ar daith i ailfywiogi’r gofal bugeiliol y mae’n ei roi, yn enwedig i’w haelodau hŷn.
Wrth i dri Chaplan Anna newydd gael eu cyflwyno i’r Gadeirlan, y Parchedig Tracy Jones, Canon Bywyd Cynulleidfaol, sy’n taflu goleuni ar y rhesymau y tu ôl i ymrwymiad y Gadeirlan i ofalu am les ysbrydol ei haelodau hŷn.
Fel cadeirlan, rydyn ni ar daith i ddatblygu a thyfu’r gofal bugeiliol rydyn ni’n ei roi. Rydyn ni wedi sefydlu grŵp gwych Camau Bach ar gyfer rhieni newydd a’u babanod ac mae gennym ni gôr sy’n cyfarfod yn rheolaidd i ymarfer ac i gymdeithasu.
Fodd bynnag, fe wnaethon ni gydnabod bod yna fwlch yn y gofal yr oeddem ni’n ei roi i aelodau hŷn, y mae llawer ohonyn nhw wedi bod yn gonglfeini’r lle cysegredig hwn – yn addoli gyda ni ac yn cefnogi’r gwaith rydyn ni wedi bod yn ei wneud ers blynyddoedd lawer. Tua’r un amser, roedd Sally Rees, Prif Gaplan Anna yng Nghymru, yn cynnal diwrnod hyfforddi felly galwodd tîm y Gadeirlan draw.
Beth yw Anna Chaplaincy?
Mae poblogaeth sy’n heneiddio’n gyflym yng Nghymru ac, yn aml, mae gan bobl hŷn ysbrydolrwydd dwfn sydd wedi datblygu dros flynyddoedd lawer. Fel tîm y Gadeirlan, rydyn ni’n awyddus i annog gweithgarwch meithrin ffydd ac i rannu’r cariad y gall ein ffydd ei roi i hyd yn oed mwy o bobl.
Mae Anna Chaplaincy yn elusen Gristnogol sy’n hyrwyddo gofal a lles ysbrydol i bobl hŷn. Mae Caplaniaid Anna wedi’u henwi ar ôl y wraig weddw, Anna, sy’n ymddangos gyda Seimon yn Efengyl Luc; mae’r naill a’r llall yn fodelau rôl da o bobl hŷn ffyddlon.
Mae’r math hwn o gaplaniaeth yn gweddu’n dda i’n rhaglen o ofal bugeiliol.
Gofal ysbrydol yn ddiweddarach mewn bywyd
Fe wnaeth brwdfrydedd Sally ac ethos Anna Chaplaincy argraff fawr arnom. Yn ystod yr hyfforddiant hwnnw y gwnaethon ni gydnabod bod angen i ni gysylltu â’r gymuned hŷn y tu allan i’r gadeirlan ac edrych ar sut y gallwn ni gynnig cymorth i bobl hŷn sy’n byw’n annibynnol.
Maen nhw wedi gofalu amdanon ni ac felly nawr rydyn ni’n gofalu amdanyn nhw.
Cwblhaodd ein Caplaniaid Anna y cwrs hyfforddi ac, ar ddydd Sul 19 Tachwedd, cawson nhw eu comisiynu yn y Gadeirlan. Ers hynny, maen nhw wedi cychwyn ar eu gwaith yn llawn brwdfrydedd! Ein Caplaniaid yw Elma, Anne a Jane.
Maen nhw eisoes wedi:
- Ymweld ag unigolion yn y gymuned leol.
- Ailgysylltu â chartrefi gofal lleol.
- Cyflwyno Gwasanaethau Cynhaeaf mewn Cyfleuster Gofal â Chymorth.
Ond mae mwy i’w wneud o hyd.
Mae pobl hŷn yn wynebu llawer o heriau gwahanol ac mae’r heriau hynny’n fwy oherwydd iechyd a symudedd sy’n gwaethygu, unigrwydd a marwolaeth anwyliaid a’u cyfoedion. Mae llawer o bobl hŷn wedi mynd ati i fanteisio ar dechnoleg, ond dydy rhai ddim wedi gallu gwneud hynny, felly maen nhw’n cael eu hynysu mwyfwy o’r gwasanaethau rydym yn eu cymryd yn ganiataol.
Rydyn ni’n gobeithio cysylltu â rhai Ffrindiau Anna yn yr Eglwys Fethodistaidd leol a gweithio gyda nhw i gefnogi hyd yn oed mwy o bobl.
Rydym yn ddiolchgar iawn i’r rhai sydd wedi mynd o’n blaenau ac i’r bobl hynny sydd wedi sicrhau bod y Gadeirlan yma o hyd er mwyn i ni i gyd ei defnyddio. Maen nhw wedi gofalu amdanon ni ac felly nawr rydyn ni’n gofalu amdanyn nhw.
Dydy gweinidogaeth byth yn rhywbeth unffordd, a byddwn ni’n cael cymaint ganddyn nhw ag yr ydym yn gobeithio ei roi iddyn nhw.

Saint Deiniol’s Cathedral launches new outreach for older people in Bangor
Saint Deiniol’s Cathedral in Bangor is embarking on a journey to breathe new life into its pastoral care, especially for its older members.
With the introduction of three new Anna Chaplains to the Cathedral, The Reverend Tracy Jones, Canon for Congregational Life, sheds light on the reasons behind the Cathedral's commitment to caring for the spiritual welfare of its older members.
As a cathedral, we are on a journey to nurture and grow our pastoral care provision.
We have set up the wonderful Camau Bach group for new parents and their babies and we have an active choir that meet regularly to rehearse and socialise.
However, we recognised a gap in our care for older members, many of whom have long been the pillars of this sacred space – worshipping with us and supporting our work for many years. Around the same time Sally Rees, Lead Anna Chaplain in Wales held a training day so the Cathedral team went along.
What is Anna Chaplaincy?
There is a rapidly ageing population in Wales and often older people have a deep spirituality that has been developed over many years. As a Cathedral team we’re keen to encourage nurture faith and share the love that our faith can bring to even more people.
Anna Chaplaincy is a Christian charity that promotes spiritual care and wellbeing for older people. Anna Chaplains are named after the widow, Anna, who appears with Simeon in Luke’s gospel; both are good role models of faithful older people.
This type of chaplaincy fits nicely into our pastoral care programme.
Spiritual care in later life
We were really impressed by Sally’s enthusiasm and the ethos of Anna Chaplaincy. It was during the training that we recognised a need to connect with the older community outside of the cathedral and look at how we can offer support to older people living independently.
They have cared for us and so we now care for them.
Our Anna Chaplains completed the training course and on Sunday 19 November they were commissioned at the Cathedral. Since then they have embarked on their new ministry with much enthusiasm! The Anna Chaplains are Elma, Anne and Jane.
Already they have:
- Visited individuals in the local community.
- Reconnected with local care homes.
- Delivered Harvest Services in an Assisted Care Facility.
But there is still more to do.
The challenges older people face are multifaceted and are enhanced by failing health and mobility, loneliness and the death of loved ones and their contemporaries. Many older people have embraced technology, but some haven’t been able to, so they are increasingly isolated from services that we take for granted.
We are hoping to connect with some Anna Friends in the local Methodist Church and work together to support even more people.
We are enormously grateful for those who have gone before us and those people who have ensured that the Cathedral is still here for us all to use. They have cared for us and so we now care for them. Ministry is never one way, and we will receive as much from them as we hope to give to them.
