Cyfres Pilgrimage y BBC i sbarduno diddordeb newydd yn Nhaith Pererin Gogledd Cymru
Mae eglwysi ar hyd Taith Pererin Gogledd Cymru yn rhagweld cynnydd mewn diddordeb yn dilyn y cyhoeddiad y bydd cyfres Pilgrimage y BBC, y bu disgwyl mawr amdani, yn dychwelyd. Wedi'i lleoli yng nghanol tirweddau trawiadol gogledd Cymru, mae disgwyl i'r chweched bennod, "Pilgrimage: The Road to Wild Wales," gael ei dangos am y tro cyntaf ddydd Gwener y Groglith. Gall gwylwyr ddisgwyl gweld wynebau cyfarwydd, gan i dri ficer o Esgobaeth Bangor gymryd rhan yn y broses o greu'r gyfres.
Mae'r gyfres newydd yn addo archwiliad unigryw o ffydd ac ysbrydolrwydd wrth i saith o enwogion, yn cynrychioli credoau amrywiol, gychwyn ar bererindod fodern ar hyd Taith Pererin Gogledd Cymru. Mae llwybr y bererindod, a sefydlwyd yn 2011, yn cynnig cyfuniad o eglwysi hynafol a ffynhonnau sanctaidd wedi'u cysegru i'r seintiau cynnar, gydag Ynys Enlli - a elwir yn 'Ynys yr 20,000 o seintiau' - y gyrchfan olaf.
Cyfarfu'r Parchedig Eryl Parry, Offeiriad Arloesi yn Nyffryn Conwy a Chaplan ar Enlli, â'r pererinion wrth iddynt deithio i eglwys anghysbell Sant Celynnin, uwchben Conwy, un o eglwysi hynaf Cymru.
"Mae Llangelynnin yn cael ei disgrifio'n aml fel lle tenau lle mae'r nefoedd yn cyffwrdd â'r ddaear," eglura Eryl. Yn dyddio'n ôl i'r 12fed ganrif, mae Llangelynnin wedi'i lleoli wrth ymyl ffynnon sanctaidd o'r 6ed ganrif ac mae'n lle poblogaidd i bererinion ar Daith Pererin Gogledd Cymru. Yn y lle sanctaidd hwn y mae Eryl yn trefnu gwasanaethau Addoli Celtaidd misol rhwng mis Ebrill a mis Hydref. Eleni mae pob gwasanaeth yn archwilio thema pererindod.
Meddai Eryl drachefn, "Rydym yn gobeithio y bydd y gyfres Pilgrimage gan y BBC yn helpu pobl i ddarganfod o'r newydd yr ysbrydolrwydd dwfn sydd wedi ymwreiddio yn ein tirwedd yng Nghymru.
"Roeddwn i'n teimlo'n freintiedig i dreulio amser gyda'r rhai y daeth Duw â nhw i Langelynnin ar gyfer y rhaglen, pawb o'r pererinion i'r tîm cynhyrchu. Cawsant gyfle i archwilio Llangelynnin drostynt eu hunain cyn i mi eu harwain ar daith gerdded fyfyriol i fan gwylio.
"Yn aml ar bererindod, gallwn gael y profiad o Dduw yn siarad trwy ein sgyrsiau â'n gilydd, ond rwy'n gweld bod cyfnodau o lonyddwch mewn mannau aros yn gallu dod yn arwyddocaol iawn. Ein henw ar y rhain yw 'Mannau Myfyrio' – pan all Duw arwain ein meddyliau a chyffwrdd ein calonnau wrth i ni fyfyrio ar yr hyn rydyn ni wedi'i weld a'i glywed. Dyna pryd y gall y daith fewnol ddechrau go iawn.
I Eryl, mae'r rhaglen yn cyd-fynd â dechrau eu tymor pererindod addoli Celtaidd, "I ni, ni ellid ei darlledu ar amser gwell ac rydym yn rhagweld diddordeb o'r newydd mewn llwybrau a lleoedd hynafol wrth i bobl sylweddoli y gallant gysylltu â Duw ar bererindod yng ngogledd Cymru.
"Mae ein cyfres o wasanaethau 2024 ein hunain yn dechrau gyda’r wawr ar Sul y Pasg. O hynny ymlaen, bob trydydd dydd Sul tan fis Hydref, cawn lawenydd ‘Addoli Celtaidd' a byddwn unwaith eto yn croesawu ystod eang o bobl sy'n ceisio cryfhau eu ffydd neu ddechrau'r daith honno o gyfarfyddiad, i brofi lletygarwch hael Duw. Rydyn ni bob amser yn dweud, "Wnewch chi fyth eistedd yn sedd unrhyw un arall."
Dechreuodd y bererindod yng Nghastell y Fflint, yn Esgobaeth Llanelwy, ar lannau Aber Afon Dyfrdwy. O'r fan honno, maen nhw'n cychwyn ar eu hantur 220km ar hyd Taith Pererin Gogledd Cymru, gan deithio drwy dirweddau hardd gogledd Cymru. Wrth iddynt fynd yn eu blaenau, mae'r pererinion yn dod ar draws llwybrau a dringfeydd heriol, gan lywio drwy odreon cadwyni o fynyddoedd mawreddog. Mae eu llwybr yn eu harwain i Esgobaeth Bangor, lle mae tri offeiriad o Esgobaeth Bangor yn ymuno â nhw, gan ychwanegu dimensiwn ysbrydol at eu taith.
"Unwaith rydych chi'n mynd ar bererindod dydych chi byth yn dod oddi arni," meddai'r Hybarch Chris Potter, un o ymgynghorwyr y rhaglen. Mewn cyfweliad ag Esgobaeth Llanelwy, eglura Chris arwyddocâd pererindod Gristnogol, "Rydych chi'n cychwyn ar daith ac mae eich llygaid yn dechrau agor ac yna mae popeth ynghylch bywyd yn dod yn daith.
"Ar bererindod cewch ddedwyddwch a chwysigod! Mae'n rhaid i chi ddysgu cymryd yr hyn a ddaw i’ch rhan. Mae'n deimlad rhyfeddol, yn y dyddiau hyn o sgrolio ar eich ffôn neu deithio mewn car, i adael hynny i gyd ar ôl a dim ond cerdded."
Wrth fyfyrio ar y broses o greu’r gyfres hon, meddai Chris, "Mae'n ymddangos bod pob un o'r saith pererin wedi eu cyffroi'n lân gan yr holl brofiad. Yn sicr, fe wnaethon nhw ffurfio cwlwm agosrwydd fel grŵp ac roedd pawb wedi elwa’n sylweddol ar y profiad. Roedd yn gyfnod cyffrous a diddorol iawn.
"Mae'r tîm o wirfoddolwyr y tu ôl i Daith y Pererin yn teimlo’n gyffrous iawn yn wir ac mae gweld y llwybr yn cael ei ddangos yn genedlaethol ac yn rhyngwladol ar y teledu yn rhywbeth cyffrous iawn."
Cafodd dau offeiriad arall o Esgobaeth Bangor gyfle hefyd i gwrdd â'r pererinion enwog ar hyd y llwybr.
Cyfarfu Rosie Dymond, Arweinydd Ardal Weinidogaeth, â'r grŵp ar safle pererindod Clynnog Fawr yng Ngwynedd, lle dywedir bod gan y ffynnon sanctaidd ger Eglwys Beuno Sant briodweddau iachaol. Ym mhentref pysgota Aberdaron, yn hanesyddol yr arhosfan olaf i bererinion ar y ffordd i Ynys Enlli, rhannodd y Parchedig Rhun ap Robert arwyddocâd ysbrydol Eglwys Sant Hywyn, arhosfan orffwys i bererinion ar eu ffordd i Ynys Enlli.
Ymhlith yr enwogion nodedig sy'n ymgymryd â'r bererindod ysbrydol hon mae'r cyflwynydd rhaglenni bywyd gwyllt Michaela Strachan, yr entrepreneur Spencer Matthews, y newyddiadurwr Sonali Shah, y digrifwr Eshaan Akbar, yr actor Tom Rosenthal, a'r bersonoliaeth deledu Christine McGuinness. Mae pob cyfranogwr yn dod â'i bersbectif a'i daith ffydd ei hun i'r daith hon, gan ychwanegu haenau o ddyfnder a hunanymholiad at y naratif.

BBC's Pilgrimage Series to spark renewed interest in North Wales Pilgrim’s Way
Churches along the North Wales Pilgrim’s Way are anticipating a surge of interest following the highly anticipated return of BBC's Pilgrimage series. Set amidst the stunning landscapes of North Wales, the sixth instalment, "Pilgrimage: The Road to Wild Wales," is scheduled to premiere on Good Friday. Viewers can expect to see familiar faces, as three vicars from the Diocese of Bangor took part in the making of the series.
The new series promises a unique exploration of faith and spirituality as seven renowned personalities, representing diverse beliefs, embark on a modern-day pilgrimage along the North Wales Pilgrim’s Way. The pilgrimage route, established in 2011, offers a blend of ancient churches and holy wells dedicated to early saints, with Bardsey Island - known as the 'Island of 20,000 saints' - as its final destination.
Langelynnin is often described as a thin place where heaven touches earth.
Revd Eryl Parry, Pioneer Priest based in the Conwy Valley and Chaplain on Bardsey met the pilgrims as they travelled to the remote hilltop church of St Celynnin, above Conwy, one of the oldest churches in Wales.
“Langelynnin is often described as a thin place where heaven touches earth,” explains Eryl. Dating back to the 12th century, Llangelynnin is situated next to a 6th century holy well and is a popular stopping-off place for pilgrims on the North Wales Pilgrim’s Way. It is at this holy place that Eryl organises monthly Celtic Praise services between April and October. This year each service explores the theme of pilgrimage.
Eryl continues, “We hope that this BBC Pilgrimage series will help people discover afresh the deep spirituality embedded in our Welsh landscape.
“I felt privileged to spend time with those God brought to Llangelynnin for the programme, right through from the pilgrims to production team. They had the chance to explore Llangelynnin for themselves before I led them on a contemplative walk to a viewing point.
“Often on pilgrimage, we can have the experience of God speaking through our conversations with one another, but I find times of stillness in stopping places can become really significant. They are what we call ‘Ponder Spots’ – when God can guide our minds and touch our hearts as we reflect on what we have seen and heard. That is when the inner journey can truly begin.
For Eryl, the programme coincides with the start of their Celtic Praise pilgrimage season, “For us, it could not be aired at a better time and we are anticipating a renewed interest in ancient routes and places as people realise they can connect with God on pilgrimage in North Wales.
“Our own 2024 series of services begins at sunrise on Easter Day. From then on, every third Sunday until October, we have the joy of ‘Celtic Praise’ and will once again welcome a wide range of people seeking to deepen faith or just beginning that journey of encounter, into a place of God’s generous hospitality. We always say “here, you will never sit in anyone else’s seat.”
The pilgrimage began at Flint Castle, situated in the Diocese of St Asaph, on the banks of the Dee Estuary. From there, they embark on their 220km adventure along the North Wales Pilgrim's Way, traversing through the picturesque landscapes of North Wales. As they progress, the pilgrims encounter challenging paths and climbs, navigating the foothills of majestic mountain ranges. Their route leads them into the Diocese of Bangor, where they are joined by three priests from the Bangor Diocese, adding a spiritual dimension to their journey.

“Once you go on pilgrimage you never really come off it,” says the Ven. Chris Potter, one of the consultants for the programme. In an interview with the Diocese of St Asaph, Chris explains the significance of Christian pilgrimage, “You start a journey and your eyes start opening and then everything about life becomes a journey.
“Pilgrimage is both bliss and blisters. You’ve got to learn to take what comes. It’s an astonishing sensation that in this day of always scrolling through your phone or getting in your car, just to leave all that and to just walk is stunning.”
Reflecting on the making of the series, Chris says, “All seven pilgrims seem to have been very moved actually by the whole experience. They certainly bonded together as a group and they all got a lot out of it. It was a very moving and interesting time.
“The volunteer team behind the Pilgrim’s Way are very excited indeed and to have the route appearing nationally and internationally on television is very exciting.”
Two other priests from the Diocese of Bangor also had the opportunity to meet the celebrity pilgrims along the route.
Rosie Dymond, Ministry Area Leader, met the group at the pilgrimage site of Clynnog Fawr in Gwynedd, where the holy well near St Beuno’s Church was said to have healing properties. At the fishing village of Aberdaron, historically the last stop for pilgrims on the way to Ynys Enlli,
Revd Rhun ap Robert shared the spiritual significance of St Hywyn’s Church, a rest stop for pilgrims on their way to Ynys Enlli.
Among the notable personalities undertaking this spiritual odyssey are wildlife presenter Michaela Strachan, entrepreneur Spencer Matthews, journalist Sonali Shah, comedian Eshaan Akbar, actor Tom Rosenthal, and TV personality Christine McGuinness. Each participant brings their own perspective and journey of faith to the expedition, adding layers of depth and introspection to the narrative.
