Cofio COP26 - Ymgyrchu

Efallai bydd y gair ‘Ymgyrchu’ yn codi ofn a braw ar rai pobl, delweddau o orwedd i lawr ar y ffordd, bod mewn cadwyni wrth reiliau ac yn y blaen! Nid yw’r ffordd honno o ymgyrchu at ddant pawb ac mae yna ffyrdd eraill o wneud yn sicr fod ein lleisiau'n cael eu clywed.

Darlleniad o’r Beibl:Exodus 3:9-15

Meddai Duw, ‘Yn awr y mae gwaedd pobl Israel wedi dod ataf, ac yr wyf wedi gweld fel y bu’r Eifftiaid yn eu gorthrymu. Tyrd, yr wyf yn dy anfon at Pharo er mwyn i ti arwain fy mhobl, meibion Israel, allan o’r Aifft.’ Ond gofynnodd Moses i Dduw, “Pwy wyf fi i fynd at Pharo ac arwain meibion Israel allan o’r Aifft?” Dywedodd yntau, “Byddaf fi gyda thi; a dyma fydd yr arwydd mai myfi sydd wedi dy anfon: wedi iti arwain y bobl allan o’r Aifft, byddwch yn addoli Duw ar y mynydd hwn.”
Yna dywedodd Moses wrth Dduw, “Os af at feibion Israel a dweud wrthynt, ‘Y mae Duw eich tadau wedi fy anfon atoch; beth a ddywedaf wrthynt os gofynnant am ei enw?”. Dywedodd Duw wrth Moses, “YDWYF YR HYN YDWYF. Dywed hyn wrth feibion Israel, ‘YDWYF sydd wedi fy anfon atoch.” Dywedodd Duw eto wrth Moses, ‘Dywed hyn wrth feibion Israel, "Yr ARGLWYDD, Duw eich tadau, Duw; Abraham, Duw Isaac a Duw Jacob sydd wedi fy anfon atoch.’ Dyma fydd fy enw am byth, ac fel hyn y cofir amdanaf gan bob cenhedlaeth.

Myfyrdod

Roedd Moses wedi cyfarfod â Duw yn y berth sy’n llosgi ac erbyn hyn mae’n cael ei anfon i wynebu Pharo. Nid yw Moses yn rhy sicr ynghylch hyn ac mae eisiau gwybod beth yw enw Duw er mwyn gallu dweud pwy sydd wedi’i anfon. Mae Duw yn ateb gan ddweud ‘YDWYF sydd wedi dy anfon’. Mae Moses yn dal i geisio dod allan o hyn trwy ddweud fod arafwch ar ei leferydd, nes bod Duw yn dweud y bydd Aaron, sy’n siarad yn dda ac yn glir iawn, yn mynd i’w ganlyn.
Does dim ffordd allan i Moses, ac fe wyddom ddiwedd y stori – cychwyn y Pasg a gŵyl y bara croyw, y ddihangfa ar draws y Môr Coch a’r daith ymlaen i Wlad yr Addewid. Roedd Moses yn gwybod am y rhoddion roedd wedi eu cael a’r rhai nad oeddynt ganddo!
Ond doedd dim rhaid iddo ei wneud hyn i gyd ar ei ben ei hun, a does dim rhaid i ni. Ar y daith ddeugain mlynedd trwy’r anialwch, roedd yn rhaid i Moses gadw’r heddwch rhwng y bobl a’u hannog, eu galluogi a galw ar Dduw i’w bwydo. Roedd yn rhaid iddo hefyd sicrhau nad oedd momentwm a phenderfyniad y daith yn pylu. Nid gwaith hawdd!
Ar adegau, mae mor hawdd teimlo ein bod yn gwneud y cyfan allwn ni, ond yn ofer, ac felly win bod yn rhoi’r gorau iddi neu'n gadael y cwbl i bobl eraill; ac, efallai, defnyddio'n holl egnïon ar brosiect arall.

A yw hyn yn rhywbeth rydych chi wedi cael profiad ohono? Os felly, beth wnaethoch chi a sut oedd hynny’n effeithio arnoch chi?

Wrth i ni ystyried newid hinsawdd, Llywodraeth Prydain sy'n rhedeg y broses, yn ei ddatblygu yn ystod misoedd i ddod ac yn sicrhau nad yw'n cael ei anghofio cyn y cyfarfod nesaf ym mis Tachwedd 2022. Y Llywodraeth sydd i fod i ystyried popeth sydd wedi'i addo yn COP26, gweithredu ar hynny a chadw'r momentwm i fynd am y daith sydd o’n blaen. Mae’r gwaith paratoi drosodd, gwaith y dyfodol fydd ysgogi a chysylltu.
Gallwn gymharu hyn a phererindod. Mae llawer o waith paratoi ar y dechrau, ar y daith i gyrraedd man y bererindod ac yna, i ddod yn ôl adref. Ond ar ôl cyrraedd adref mae’r gwaith yn dechrau mewn gwirionedd wrth i ni fyfyrio ar sut mae hyn wedi’n herio ac wedi’n newid, wedi’n tynnu’n agosach at Dduw, wedi dyfnhau ein ffydd.
Wrth i ni ystyried problemau newid hinsawdd, y llywodraethau ac arweinwyr diwydiant a busnes sy’n gorfod canfod ffyrdd o weithio gydag asiantaethau eraill a dechrau gwireddu’r addewidion. Yr hyn allwn ni ei wneud efallai, yw gwneud yn siŵr nad ydyn nhw’n anghofio.

Gweddi

Dduw yr holl greadigaeth
a ddatganodd fod popeth yn dda ar ddechrau amser.
Rydym yn cydnabod nad ydym wedi gofalu
am fwydo’r ddaear o dan ein traed
na’r moroedd a phopeth sy’n byw ynddyn nhw,
na’r aer sy’n rhoi bywyd i’r holl greadigaeth.
Rwyf i / Rydym ni eisiau gwneud iawn.
Rwyf i / Rydym ni eisiau darganfod ffyrdd o gyfiawnder.
Rwyf i / Rydym ni’n ceisio byd o gynaliadwyedd a chydraddoldeb.
Rho i mi / ni y dewrder i ddefnyddio fy / ein llais
i siarad yn erbyn difaterwch a diffyg gweithredu,
i ddarganfod beth yw dy alwad ymgyrchu di i mi / ni
trwy’r daith ddiddiwedd
o’m /’n chwilio am ddealltwriaeth trwy ffydd,
fel na fydd popeth a gafodd ei addo yn COP26 yn cael ei anghofio.
Mewn ffydd, O Dduw, rwyf i / rydym ni’n addo chwarae fy / ein rhan
mewn cynnal dy fyd i’r cenedlaethau i ddod.
Yn enw’r Duw, sydd, YDWYF,
ac Iesu a’r Ysbryd Glân,
y gwneir y weddi hon. Amen.

Ychydig o awgrymiadau
  • Wyddoch chi pwy yw eich cynghorwyr lleol? Gallwch ysgrifennu atyn nhw a gofyn a yw newid hinsawdd ar eu hagenda a pha newidiadau y bydden nhw’n eu gwneud mewn cymunedau lleol.
  • Wyddoch chi pwy yw eich aelod o’r Senedd? Gallwch ysgrifennu atynt, neu at y Gweinidog dros Faterion yr Amgylchedd a Hinsawdd i ofyn beth y maen nhw’n ei wneud yma yng Nghymru.
  • A yw newid hinsawdd yn cael ei drafod yn eich eglwys, ai mewn pregethau, grwpiau astudio neu mewn cyfarfodydd cynulleidfaol neu Ardal Genhadaeth? Os nag yw, gallech ei awgrymu ei fod yn cael ei gynnwys ar yr agenda?
  • Dysgwch ragor am effeithiau newid hinsawdd ar fywydau ar draws y byd.
  • Oes yna bobl eraill yn eich eglwys a’ch Ardal Genhadaeth a fyddai’n hoffi cyfarfod i drafod beth ellid ei wneud, fel unigolion a chyda’ch gilydd, i gael dyfodol mwy cynaliadwy?
  • Gweddïwch dros y rhai sy'n ymgyrchu dros fyd gwyrddach a diogelach i fyw ynddo.

Remembering COP26 - Campaigining

The word ‘Campaigning’ may strike a flame of fear in some people bringing images of lying down in roads, being chained to railings and so on! This way of campaigning is not for everyone and there are other ways in which we can make our voice heard.

Bible Reading: Exodus 3: 9-15

God said, ‘The cry of the Israelites has now come to me; I have also seen how the Egyptians oppress them. So come, I will send you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.’ But Moses said to God, ‘Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?’ He said, ‘I will be with you; and this shall be the sign for you that it is I who sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall worship God on this mountain.’
But Moses said to God, ‘If I come to the Israelites and say to them, “The God of your ancestors has sent me to you”, and they ask me, “What is his name?” what shall I say to them?’ God said to Moses, ‘I am who I am.’ He said further, ‘Thus you shall say to the Israelites, “I am has sent me to you.”’ God also said to Moses, ‘Thus you shall say to the Israelites, “The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you”: This is my name for ever, and this my title for all generations.

Reflection

Moses has met with God in the burning bush and is now being sent to confront Pharaoh. Moses isn’t too sure about this and wants to know the name of God so he can say who has sent him. God replies, saying ‘I AM has sent you’. Moses still tries to get out of going by declaring his slowness of speech, until God says that Aaron who speaks very well and clearly will go with him.
There is no way out for Moses, and we know the end of the story - the beginning of the Passover and festival of unleavened bread, the escape across the Red Sea, and ongoing journey to the Promised Land. Moses knew the gifts he had and the ones he didn’t!
He didn’t have to do it all alone though, and neither do we. On that forty-year journey through the wilderness Moses had to keep the peace between the people, encourage them, enable them, and call upon God to feed them. He also had to ensure that momentum and determination for this journey didn’t fade away. Not an easy job!
At times it is so easy to feel we are doing all we can and getting nowhere, and so we give up or we simply leave it all to others; and perhaps use our energies on another project.

Is this something you have experienced? If so, what did you do and how did it affect you?

As we look at climate change, it is the British Government who are in charge of the process and to drive it forward over the coming months, and not let it be forgotten before the next meeting in November 2022. They are to look at all that has been pledged at COP26 and put it into action and keep the momentum going for the journey still to take place. The work of preparation is over now the work for the future has to activated and engaged with.
We can compare this to a pilgrimage. There is a great deal of preparation to do first, and then the undertaking to reach the pilgrim place and then return home. It’s once we return home, though, that the real work begins as we reflect upon how this has challenged and changed us, drawn us closer to God, deepened our faith.
As we reflect upon climate change issues, then it is for the governments and leaders of industry and business that now have to find ways of working with other agencies and begin to bring the pledges given into being. What we can perhaps do is to ensure they do not forget.

Prayer

God of all creation,
which you declared good at the beginning of time.
We acknowledge we have not cared
for the nourishment of the earth beneath our feet
nor the seas and all that dwells within them,
or the air that is to give life all to creation.
I/We seek to make amends.
I/We seek to discover ways of justice.
I/We seek a world of sustainability and equality.
Give to me/us the courage to use my/our voice
to speak out against complacency and inaction,
to discover what your campaigning call to me/us is
through the never-ending journey
of my/our faith seeking understanding,
so all that was pledged at COP26 will not be forgotten.
In faith, O God, I/we pledge to play my/our part
in sustaining your world for generations to come.
In the name of God, who is, I AM,
and of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit,
this prayer is made. Amen.

A few suggestions
  • Do you know who your local councillors are? You could write to them and ask if climate change is on their agenda and what changes they will make in local communities.
  • Do you know who your member of Sennedd is? You could write to them, or the Minister for the Environment and Climate Issues to ask what they are doing here in Wales.
  • Is climate change discussed in your church, whether in sermons, study group or at congregational and Ministry Area meeting? If not, could you suggest it is on the agenda?
  • Learn more about the effects of climate change on lives across the world.
  • Are there other people in your church and Ministry Area who would like to meet to discuss what can be done individually and together for a more sustainable future?
  • Pray for those campaigning for a greener and safer world in which to live.
