Arweinydd Ardal Weinidgoaeth newydd ym Mro Ogwen
Mae'n bleser gan Archesgob Cymru ac Esgob Cynorthwyol Bangor gyhoeddi penodiad y Parchg Ddr Gareth Lloyd yn Ficer ac Arweinydd Ardal Weinidogaeth Bro Ogwen sy'n gwasanaethu'r cymunedau o amgylch Bethesda yn Archddiaconiaeth Bangor.
Meddai Esgob Mary am yr apwyntiad,
Edrychwn ymlaen yn fawr at groesawu’r Parch Ddr Gareth Lloyd a’i wraig Elizabeth Lloyd i’r esgobaeth wrth i Gareth baratoi ar gyfer ei rôl newydd fel Arweinydd Ardal Weinidogaeth Bro Ogwen. Bydd hyn yn teimlo fel rhywbeth o ddod adref i Gareth. Yn wreiddiol o Ogledd Cymru ac yn Gymro Cymraeg bu Gareth yn astudio Ffiseg ac yna Diwinyddiaeth a Litwrgi ym Mhrifysgolion Caergrawnt a Durham. Mae ei weinidogaeth hyd yma wedi bod yn Esgobaeth Durham. Mae'n angerddol am Litwrgi, Cerddoriaeth, y rhyngweithio rhwng ffydd a gwyddoniaeth a chynhwysiant. Bydd Gareth ac Elizabeth yn byw ym Mangor a bydd yn bleser eu cael ymhlith teulu’r esgobaeth.
Yn cyflwyno'i hun, meddai Gareth,
Mab o Sir y Fflint ydw i, o aelwyd ddwyieithog. Fe astudiais Ffiseg yn y brifysgol, lle wnes i gyfarfod ag Elizabeth. Priodon ni yn 1984, a ganwyd ein plentyn Jessi yn 1993. Gweithiais am ychydig flynyddoedd ym maes electroneg cyn hyfforddi fel offeiriad. Cefais fy ordeinio yn esgobaeth Durham, lle bu fy holl weinidogaeth tan rŵan.
'Rwyf yn parhau yn fy niddordeb gwyddonol, ac yn arbennig y berthynas rhwng gwyddoniaeth a diwinyddiaeth. 'Rwyf yn ymlacio trwy wrando ar gerddoriaeth, a chanu’r piano a’r organ o dro i dro. 'Rwyf hefyd yn mwynhau comedi “stand-up” ac yn hapus iawn yn gwylio criced pan fydd cyfle.
Mae Elizabeth a finnau yn edrych ymlaen yn fawr iawn at ddod i Ardal Bro Ogwen, a dod yn rhan o’r gymuned.
Bydd Gareth yn dechrau ei weinidogaeth newydd ym Mro Ogwen ar ddechrau mis Mehefin, a bydd yn cael ei drwyddedu yn Eglwys Crist, Bethesda, am 7pm 1 Mehefin 2022. Gweddïwch dros Gareth, Elizabeth a phobl Bro Ogwen wrth iddynt ddechrau pennod newydd yn eu bywydau.
A new Ministry Area Leader for Bro Ogwen
The Archbishop of Wales and the Assistant Bishop of Bangor are pleased to announce the appointment of the Revd Dr Gareth Lloyd as Vicar and Ministry Area Leader of Bro Ogwen Ministry Area which serves the communities around Bethesda in the Archdeaconry of Bangor.
Speaking of the appointment Bishop Mary says,
We are so looking forward to welcoming the Revd Dr Gareth Lloyd and his wife Elizabeth Lloyd to the diocese as Gareth prepares for his new role as Ministry Area Leader of Bro Ogwen. This will feel like something of a home-coming for Gareth. Originally from North Wales and a Welsh speaker Gareth studied Physics and then Theology and Liturgy at Cambridge and Durham Universities. His ministry to date has been in Durham Diocese. He is passionate about Liturgy, Music, the interaction between faith and science and inclusion. Gareth and Elizabeth will be living in Bangor and it will be a joy to have them amongst the diocesan family.
Introducing himself, Gareth says,
I am a native of Flintshire, raised in a bilingual household. I studied Physics at university, where I also met Elizabeth. We were married in 1984; our child Jessi was born in 1993. I worked for a few years in electronics before training as a priest. I was ordained in Durham diocese, where my whole ministry has been until now.
I maintain my interest in physics, and in particular the relationship between science and theology. I relax by listening to music and playing the piano and organ from time to time. I also enjoy stand-up comedy and am very happy to watch cricket when the opportunity arises.
Elizabeth and I are very much looking forward to coming to the Bro Ogwen Area and becoming part of the community.
Gareth will start his new ministry among the people of Bro Ogwen at the start of June, and will be licensed at Christ Church, Bethesda at 7pm 1 June 2022. Please pray for Gareth, Elizabeth and the people of Bro Ogwen as they enter a new chapter in their lives.
