Cadeirlan Bangor yn ennill gwobr efydd Eco Eglwys
Mae Cadeirlan Deiniol Sant ym Mangor wedi ennill gwobr efydd Eco Eglwys am ei hymdrechion i fynd i’r afael â newid hinsawdd drwy ymgorffori ystyriaethau amgylcheddol yn ei bywyd bob dydd, ei gwaith a’i haddoli.
Mae’r wobr, a roddwyd gan A Rocha UK, elusen gadwraeth Gristnogol, yn adlewyrchu ymrwymiad Cadeirlan Bangor i sicrhau bod gofal am greadigaeth Duw a chynaliadwyedd wrth wraidd ei bywyd a’i gweithgareddau.
Yn ystod y misoedd diwethaf, mae Esgobaeth Bangor wedi ymrwymo ymhellach i fynd i’r afael â newid hinsawdd gyda swyddfa ganolog esgobaethol Tŷ Deiniol yn ennill gwobr efydd Eco Eglwys hefyd. Mae cynlluniau hefyd i rannau o’r tir o amgylch y Gadeirlan a Thŷ Deiniol gael eu dad-ddofi mewn ymgais i ddenu mwy o fywyd gwyllt i ganol dinas Bangor.
Mae’r wobr Eco Eglwys yn asesu pum maes allweddol o fywyd eglwys; addoli ac addysgu, adeiladau’r eglwys, rheoli tir yr eglwys, ymgysylltiad cymunedol a byd-eang, a ffordd o fyw. Mae’r rhaglen Eco Eglwys yn helpu eglwysi i ddathlu’r hyn maen nhw’n ei wneud ar hyn o bryd i ofalu am yr amgylchedd ac i benderfynu beth i’w wneud nesaf.
Meddai John Harvey, Archddiacon Ynys Môn a Hyrwyddwr Eco Eglwys ar gyfer Esgobaeth Bangor, “Mae cymryd rhan yn Eco Eglwys yn gyfystyr â rhannu cenhadaeth Duw i garu’r byd. Mae eglwysi Ardaloedd Gweinidogol Bro Gwydir a Bro Dwynwen wedi bod ymgymryd â gwaith Eco Eglwys arloesol yn yr esgobaeth, ac mae eraill wedi ennill eu gwobrau yn ddiweddar. Nawr, mae’r Gadeirlan a Thŷ Deiniol, sy’n ganolog i fywyd esgobaethol, wedi cael eu cydnabod am eu hymrwymiad nhw hefyd.
“Llongyfarchiadau i bawb sydd wedi cymryd rhan. Mae eich gwaith ymroddedig yn dangos sut y gallwn ni, fel Cristnogion, ymateb i’r argyfwng ecolegol sy’n wynebu ein planed.”
Meddai David Morris, sydd newydd gael ei benodi’n Esgob Enlli yn yr esgobaeth, “Rydym yn falch iawn bod y Gadeirlan a Thŷ Deiniol wedi llwyddo i gael eu gwobr efydd Eco Eglwys, gan ein rhoi ar y trywydd iawn i ddod yn Eco Esgobaeth.
“Llongyfarchiadau i Aine Guy a Chanon Tracy Jones am eu hymdrechion i wneud hyn yn bosibl! Rydym yn gobeithio y bydd y Gadeirlan ac Ardaloedd Gweinidogol eraill sydd wedi ennill gwobrau Eco Eglwys yn annog eraill o bosibl i wneud yr un peth fel rhan o’n stiwardiaeth ffyddlon o fyd Duw.”

Bangor Cathedral receives bronze eco church award
Saint Deiniol’s Cathedral in Bangor has been awarded a bronze Eco Church award for its efforts to combat climate change by incorporating environmental considerations into its daily life, work, and worship.
The award was given by A Rocha UK, a Christian conservation charity, and reflects Bangor Cathedral’s commitment to putting care of God’s creation and sustainability at the heart of its life and activities.
In recent months the Diocese of Bangor has stepped up their commitment to tackling climate change with the diocesan central office Tŷ Deiniol also receiving the Eco Church Bronze Award. There are also plans for parts of the grounds surrounding the Cathedral and Tŷ Deiniol to be rewilded in a bid to attract more wildlife to Bangor city centre.
The Eco Church Award assesses five key areas of church life; worship and teaching, church buildings, church land management, community and global engagement, and lifestyle. The Eco Church programme supports churches to celebrate what they are currently doing to care for the environment and decide what to tackle next.
John Harvey, Archdeacon of Anglesey and Eco Church Champion for the Diocese of Bangor, says “Participating in Eco Church is to share in God's mission in loving the world. Eco Church work has been pioneered in the diocese by the churches of Bro Gwydir and Bro Dwynwen Ministry Areas, and others have recently achieved their awards. Now our Cathedral and Tŷ Deiniol at the centre of our diocesan life are recognised for their commitment too.
“Congratulations to everyone involved. Your committed work shows how we can respond as Christians to the ecological crisis facing our planet.”
David Morris, newly appointed as Bishop of Bardsey to the diocese, says, “We are delighted that the Cathedral and Tŷ Deiniol have been successful in attaining their Bronze Eco Church award, placing us on a good footing to becoming an Eco Diocese.
“Congratulations to Aine Guy and Canon Tracy Jones at the Cathedral and Mererid Morgan Williams at Tŷ Deiniol for their efforts to make this possible. We hope the Cathedral and other Ministry Areas who have attained eco church awards might encourage others to do the same as part of our faithful stewardship of God's world.”
