Prosiect addysg newydd yn dod â seintiau a straeon Bangor i’r ystafelloedd dosbarth
Mae Esgobaeth Bangor wedi ymuno â Phrifysgol Bangor a phartneriaid lleol i lansio prosiect addysg newydd sy’n dod â threftadaeth gyfoethog y ddinas i’r ysgolion.
Mae rhaglen Coleg Treftadaeth Bangor yn cynnwys modiwlau ar fywyd ac etifeddiaeth Sant Deiniol, Eglwys Gadeiriol Bangor, Eglwys Sant Tegai yn ogystal â thirnodau enwog eraill ar draws y ddinas. Drwy wersi rhyngweithiol ac ymweliadau, bydd disgyblion yn archwilio hanes lleol, adeiladau hynod a thraddodiadau pererindod, gan gryfhau eu cysylltiad â hynaf ddinas Cymru. Mae’r prosiect yn cael ei lansio fel rhan o ddathliadau 1500 mlwyddiant Bangor.
Mae adnoddau ar bererindod, ymgysylltiad eglwysig a hanes y seintiau wedi’u creu ar gyfer ysgolion ac eglwysi lleol.
Bydd myfyrwyr yn gallu ennill credydau drwy gwblhau modiwlau ymchwil ar dreftadaeth Bangor, gan weithio tuag at dystysgrifau efydd, arian ac aur. Bydd y rhaglen yn dod i ben gyda seremoni raddio i’r rhai sy’n cwblhau’r credydau.
Mynychodd dros 30 o ddisgyblion o saith ysgol lansiad y prosiect yng Nghanolfan Hanesyddol Neuadd Powis ym Mhrifysgol Bangor. Croesawyd hwy gan Dr Martin Hanks, Cyfarwyddwr y Ddinas, a’r Cynghorydd Medwyn Hughes, Maer Bangor, gan ddilyn gyda arweinwyr y prosiect, sef Nia Young, Darlithydd Uwch mewn Addysg a Chynghori, a Mervyn Jones, yn cyflwyno’r rhaglen.
Fel rhan o waith addysg Esgobaeth Bangor, mae adnoddau ar bererindod, ymgysylltiad eglwysig a hanes y seintiau wedi’u creu ar gyfer ysgolion ac eglwysi lleol. Bu Nia Elain Roberts, Swyddog Ymgysylltu Pererindod Ysgolion yr Esgobaeth, yn cydweithio â Mervyn Jones i greu unedau ar Eglwys Gadeiriol Bangor a Sant Deiniol.
Dywed Nia: “Mae’r Coleg Treftadaeth yn adnodd rhagorol i athrawon sy’n cwrdd â gofynion y Cwricwlwm newydd o ran dealltwriaeth dysgwyr o’u hamgylchedd lleol. Mae’n cynnig cyfle i danio chwilfrydedd, annog plant, eu teuluoedd a’r ysgolion i ymweld â’r Gadeirlan ac sefydliadau eraill o gwmpas y ddinas.”
“Drwy dasgau ymchwil annibynnol, bydd dysgwyr yn ehangu eu gwybodaeth, yn dysgu parchu eu hardal leol, ac yn cael y cyfle i deimlo balchder yn yr hyn sydd o’u cwmpas.”
Dywed Dr Nia Young: “Mae Coleg Treftadaeth Bangor yn gyfle arbennig i bobl ifanc ddysgu mwy am hanes cyfoethog ardal Bangor. Mae’n ffordd i fyfyrwyr ymgysylltu â’u cymuned leol ac i ni gryfhau’r cysylltiad rhwng y Brifysgol, y ddinas a’r genhedlaeth iau.”
Bydd tîm y Coleg Treftadaeth yn ymweld ag ysgolion yn y Flwyddyn Newydd i gynorthwyo disgyblion wrth iddynt ddechrau gweithio drwy’r modiwlau.
“Rydyn ni’n hynod gyffrous i weithio gydag ysgolion ym Mangor i gefnogi plant wrth iddynt archwilio eu treftadaeth leol dros y misoedd nesaf. Diolch arbennig i Mervyn Jones am baratoi’r modiwlau dysgu, sy’n amhrisiadwy wrth gysylltu disgyblion ysgolion lleol â hanes a threftadaeth gyfoethog Bangor.”

New education project brings Bangor’s saints and stories into classrooms
The Diocese of Bangor has joined forces with Bangor University and local partners to launch a new education project that brings the city’s rich heritage into schools.
The Bangor Heritage College programme includes modules on the life and legacy of St Deiniol, Bangor Cathedral, St Tegai’s Church as well as other famous landmarks across the city. Through interactive lessons and visits, pupils will explore local history, fascinating buildings and pilgrimage traditions, strengthening their connection to Wales’ oldest city. The project launches as part of Bangor’s 1500 year celebrations.
Resources on pilgrimage, church engagement and the history of the saints have been created for local schools and churches.
Students will be able to earn credits by completing research modules on Bangor’s heritage, working towards bronze, silver and gold certificates. The programme will culminate in a graduation ceremony for those who complete the credits.
More than 30 pupils from seven schools attended the launch at Bangor University’s historic Powis Hall. They were welcomed by Dr Martin Hanks, City Director, and Cllr Medwyn Hughes, Mayor of Bangor, before project leads Nia Young, Senior Lecturer in Education and Counselling, and Mervyn Jones introduced the programme.
As part of the Diocese of Bangor’s education work, resources on pilgrimage, church engagement and the history of the saints have been created for local schools and churches. Nia Elain Roberts, School Pilgrimage Engagement Officer for the Diocese , worked with Mervyn Jones to create units on Bangor Cathedral and Saint Deiniol.
Nia says, “Heritage College is a great resource for teachers that meets the requirements of the new Curriculum regarding learners’ understanding of their local environment. It provides an opportunity to spark curiosity, encourage children, their families, and schools to visit the Cathedral and other institutions around the city.
“Through independent research tasks, learners will expand their knowledge, learn to respect their local area, and have the chance to take pride in what surrounds them.”
Dr Nia Young says, “Bangor Heritage College is a fantastic opportunity for young people to learn more about the rich history of the Bangor area. It’s a way for students to engage with their local community and for us to build on the connection between the University, the city, and the younger generation.”
The Heritage College team will visit schools in the New Year to support pupils as they begin working through the modules.
